Amanda Hollis-Brusky

Speaker: Dr. Ran Libeskind-Hadas, Founding Chair, Kravis Dept. of Integrated Sciences, Claremont McKenna College

Claremont McKenna College’s Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences offers a new approach to undergraduate science education that uniquely prepares our graduates to engage with some of the greatest challenges and opportunities facing society. Among these are contributing to the health of our species, improving quality of life, driving economic growth, and protecting our planet for future generations. This presentation will describe the vision and implementation of the new science program including the development of the curricula, faculty and staff, and the Robert Day Sciences Center.

Ran Libeskind-Hadas is the Kravis Professor of Integrated Sciences: Computational Biology, and Founding Chair at CMC. He works in combinatorial algorithms to solve problems arising in biology, with a particular interest in cophylogenetics. Prior to CMC, he was on the Computer Science faculty at Harvey Mudd College. He earned an A.B. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard and a PhD in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has written CS textbooks and published many research papers.

The Club President and Members Welcome You

The University Club of Claremont has just celebrated its hundredth anniversary. While our club has changed greatly over the past century, it’s original goals are mostly the same: to promote friendship, intellectual curiosity, and education in the Claremont area.

We invite you to attend our lunch meetings to learn from a wide variety of programs and to meet people who value education.
